John S. McIlwain, Chairman of the Board, President, and a Velos co-founder, has served Velos as Chairman and President from September 1996 to June 2000 and from July 2001 to present. From 1991 to September 1996, Mr. McIlwain served as President of Software Services International, Inc., a software development and service company (now Aithent) of which he was also a co-founder. In 1990, Mr. McIlwain provided strategic consulting services to the General Systems Group of Sun Microsystems. Prior to Sun Microsystems, from 1986 to 1989, Mr. McIlwain held software Product Manager, Consulting, and Sales positions in the Financial Services group of Price Waterhouse. Mr. McIlwain also served as Adjunct Professor of Management and Operations Science at Columbia University Graduate School of Business. Mr. McIlwain holds an MBA from the Columbia Graduate School of Business, and a BA in English and Economics from Middlebury College.
Amar P.S. Chahal, MD, Executive Vice President, Board of Directors, and a Velos Co-Founder has served Velos from September 1996 to present in the capacity of Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer (December 1998 to Present); Executive Vice President, Operations (December 1997 to December 1998), and Executive Vice President, Research and Development (September 1996 to December 1998). From 1992 to 1996, Dr. Chahal was Director, Health Services, for Software Services International, Inc. From 1990 to 1992, Dr. Chahal provided consulting services to Merck & Company. From 1983 to 1989, Dr. Chahal was a resident and then practicing orthopedic/vascular surgeon in the National Health Service in London, England. In 1982, Dr. Chahal directed a primary care hospital in Punjab, India as a part of a WHO project. Dr. Chahal holds an MBA from Columbia University; his Fellowship exams in Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, Scotland; and an MD from the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, India. He has spoken and written on surgery, healthcare informatics, the Internet, and strategic issues in clinical research.
Kamar Aulakh, COO, has served Velos as Chief Operating Officer since January 2010. Mr. Aulakh has an extensive background as an engineer, entrepreneur, and business leader in technology and health care. He has established and managed technology ventures in the United States, Europe, Singapore and India. As President and CEO of Quark, Inc., a leading developer of software solutions for professional publishers worldwide, Mr. Aulakh grew the organization to an extremely profitable 1,900-employee entity focused on digital workflows. Earlier, Mr. Aulakh managed the development of technical products and services for national and multinational corporations in the Telecommunications, Energy and Healthcare industries. As an entrepreneur, Mr. Aulakh has founded companies providing Internet-based subscription services for managing digital content, automating and improving healthcare processes, and offering technology enabled business services. Mr. Aulakh has a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, a Master’s in Industrial Engineering, and an MBA.
N. Venu Gopal, Velos Board of Directors and a Velos co-founder, is CEO and co-founder of Aithent, Inc. Mr. Gopal, formerly of Fuji Xerox and Stanford Research International, has also served as an adjunct professor at Columbia Business School and a member of the Board Director of CareNet International, Japan. Mr. Gopal has over 20 years experience in IT industry with specialization in object technology, pattern recognition and artificial intelligence. Mr. Gopal has an MBA from Columbia University, and a Bachelor's and Master's in Engineering from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan.
G. Kirk Raab, Board of Directors. Kirk Raab has spent 47 years in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. He started with Pfizer, was also a product manager; spent eleven years living in Latin America with Pfizer, and as Vice President for Latin America for Beecham. He joined Abbott Laboratories in North Chicago in 1975 and went from Vice President of Latin America to President, Chief Operating Officer and a Director in early 1981. During that time, he made a major investment for Abbott in Boston Scientific and Amgen (where he served on the Board for four years) with great financial successes for Abbott. In 1985, he joined Genentech as President, Chief Operating Officer and a Director and then in 1990 as Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Raab holds a BA from Colgate University (with honors), Honorary Fellow, Exeter College, Oxford University, and a Forever Member, The Chancellor's Court, Oxford University.
James J. Rossiter, Board of Directors, is Principal of Rossiter LLC, a Healthcare Management Consulting and Business Development Company. Prior to Rossiter LLC, Mr. Rossiter was the Division Manager for Siemens' Digital Hospital Solutions division. Prior to joining Siemens, Mr. Rossiter was CEO of Velos, Inc., and President of New Era of Networks (now Sybase), and CyberPlus Corporation. Mr. Rossiter began his career at IBM Corporation where he held a variety of management positions, most recently as the Director of Clinical Solutions for the IBM Global Healthcare organization. Mr. Rossiter has a BS in Business Administration and Political Science from the University of New Hampshire.
Madalynne A. Chapman, Director of Business Affairs, has served in her current role since 2004 and served as Director for Velos, Inc. from 1998 to 2004. From 1995 to 1998, Ms. Chapman served as Investor Relations Coordinator for Bay Networks, Inc. Ms. Chapman held positions in management and Investor Relations for Celtrix Pharmaceuticals, Inc. from 1991 to 1994. Ms. Chapman holds a BA and MA in Political Science from the University of Oklahoma.
