REDDING MEDICAL CENTER
REDDING, CALIFORNIA
The following interview was conducted with Mark Eliason, RN - Quality Resource Manager (CT Surgery, Cardiology & Emerging Departments).
Facility Description:
Redding Medical Center is a 238-bed,
acute-care hospital facility in Northern California. RMC is
recognized for its outstanding Cardiac Services. It
introduced open-heart surgery to the region and continues to be a
leader in both nonsurgical coronary intervention and surgery. RMC,
in turn, is part of the Tenet HealthSystem, one of the nation’s most
highly regarded healthcare companies. Redding Medical Center is a
visionary provider of quality, fully integrated health care. RMC
fosters and advocates the values of human kindness and dignity with
fiscal responsibility.
Cardiology Departmental Situation:
- Required a certified STS Cardiology application vendor in order to participate in STS database.
- With 2,881 records (four years worth of data) it was crucial that the data be migrated successfully into the software application.
- The department needed a stable system that could handle 800+ patient records per year.
- Needed a software system that was easy to install and needed no on-going facility IS support.
Velos: What prompted you to explore Cardiology
software?
Mark: The Y2K bug and STS harvest
requirements.
Velos: What software companies did you
consider and investigate?
Mark: Five total. Velos,
Seattle Systems, MicroMedical, Axis and two
others.
Velos: Why did you choose Velos
Cardiology?
Mark: The reporting wizard is
Excel-based. Had prior relationship with Summit. Velos was
significantly less expensive and thus provided greater
value.
Velos: What is the best feature of the Velos
Cardiology module?
Mark: The value is in the
Excel reporting.
Velos: Do you utilize the
customization tool?
Mark: We will use it pare
down some fields and intend to add a couple of our
own.
Velos: Would you consider purchasing additional
Velos modules?
Mark: Yes. We would like to
explore the Cardiology module.
Velos: How would you
describe the Velos Implementation team?
Mark:
Excellent. First, they fixed our problem of having duplicate
records and second, all the data migrated as it should have. The
Implementation Project Manager did a fantastic job in guiding us
through the migration process.
Velos: How would you describe your Velos training?
Mark: Great staff. Good at answering questions during training and superb at follow-through.
Velos: How would you describe Customer Technical Support?
Mark: Very good. Timely at answering questions and were there when we needed them. The software upgrades were conveniently scheduled and well handled.
Velos: What items would you change regarding the CT Surgery module?
Mark: Software is very comprehensive, but we are only interested in the required STS fields. We have not the time to complete all the included fields.
Velos: When you think of Velos, what comes to mind?
Mark: Velos is Customer Support. Love the Velos logo. Confident in the Velos system after exposure to Customer Support.
Velos: What other software applications is your facility currently buying or installing?
Mark: We are currently installing “Apache,” a program that reports probable patient outcomes in real-time. We are also in the process of purchasing “Careview,” from Agilent.”
Velos: Any other thoughts on Velos?
Mark: We have complete confidence in Velos Implementation, Training and Customer Technical Support, and it is comforting to know that such valuable services are available should we need them.
