Velos Gets Korean Contract
"(August 2007) Fremont, Calif.-based Velos Inc. has won a research contract in South Korea. The National Cancer Center of South Korea will use the firm’s eResearch application to manage clinical trials and ease data exchange and collaboration among researchers.
The cancer center is attempting to standardize data collection and dissemination and automate financial/administrative processes for cancer research activities in the nation of 49 million. Contract terms were not disclosed.
The federally funded cancer center includes a 500-bed hospital that also provides outpatient treatment to 1,200 patients daily. More information is available at velos.com and ncc.re.kr.
The South Korea initiative, which includes an Internet-based platform, is separate from a research collaboration effort in the United States but with the same goal of creating a national information network for cancer research.
In the U.S., the National Cancer Institute has led efforts to build the cancer BioMedical Informatics Grid, called caBIG, as a World Wide Web for cancer researchers and clinicians. For details, see healthdatamanagement.com/html/current/PastIssueStory.cfm?ArticleId=14625&issuedate=2007-02-01."
