  • Velos Powers Prostate Cancer Foundation Researchers

Fremont, CA — February 17, 2005 — The cover story of Fortune Magazine’s November 29, 2004 issue featured Michael Milken, six time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong, and Michael Milken’s pioneering efforts to find a cure for all types of cancer. In the Fortune article, which appeared under the full page headline “The Man Who Changed Medicine”, the author notes:

“In the time it normally takes a big pharmaceutical company to bring a single new drug to market, Milken has managed to raise the profile of prostate cancer significantly, increase funding dramatically to fight the disease, spur innovative research, attract new people to the field, get myriad drugs into clinical trials, and, dare we say, speed up science.”

Velos is the clinical trial management software company that supports Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) researchers. Velos eResearch is used by PCF researchers to capture clinical trial information; integrate with hospital information systems; and exchange and consolidate information across sites; and to support a myriad of regulatory, reporting, and analysis needs. In a little over a year, seven leading prostate cancer research programs, including four of the top ten in the United States (U.S. News and World Report), have put Velos eResearch into production.

“As part of our mission to accelerate the development of better treatments and a cure for prostate cancer, we must improve the efficiency of the clinical trials process. By adopting a common data system, these leading academic centers, all of which are members of our Therapy Consortium, have taken an important step in the right direction. This will make it easier for more patients to participate in clinical trials and help everyone benefit from the results of those trials sooner,” said Leslie D. Michelson, Vice Chairman and CEO of the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

John McIlwain, President of Velos, adds, “To support the Prostate Cancer Foundation’s highly collaborative research programs, systems must adapt to the researchers’ unique needs at each site and at the same time facilitate collaboration and information exchange. Velos eResearch is highly suited to these multi-dimensional information needs. PCF’s high caliber management and their exceptional investigators think and move fast----it’s our job to move in lock step with them.” The complete Fortune story is available at Fortune.com (subscription required).
