VELOS CARDIOLOGY AND CARDIOTHORACIC SURGERY, VERSION 2.0, COMPLETES CERTIFICATION FROM THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF CARDIOLOGY (ACC)

Minneapolis, MN – May 1, 2001 – Velos, Inc. today announced that its Velos Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery information system has successfully concluded certification by the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and is now fully ACC Version 2.0 and Version 1.0 certified. Velos Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery is a scalable information system designed to meet a range of customer needs in the cardiovascular market.

“ACC 2.0 certification brings us into full compliance with both the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) and American College of Cardiology (ACC) database specifications,” said Bob Baumgartner, Sr. Product Manager, Velos Specialty Division. “The ACC has made significant changes to their dataset to not only better reflect current clinical practice but also allow for more fields to be calculated, reducing data entry time. Velos’ customization tool, dynamic warehouse, and development of critical reports allow the user to integrate the wealth of data they are collecting to make positive improvements in patient care and operations.”

Recently, when asked why Velos Cardiology was the ‘product of choice’, Ms. Julie Hallfrisch, R.N., who is the Cardiac Registry Specialist at Benefis Healthcare in Montana, replied, “Well, first, for any data that you present to a group of physicians or insurance carriers, you want valid and reliable data. With Velos, you know that the data is factual. Second would be the efficiency of data entry. Time is money in any organization and the less time you spend hitting keys, the better off we all are.”

Reports are also important. Ms. Hallfrisch continued, “The physicians want to know exactly how many procedures they are performing a month; our surgeons want to know the length of stay from procedure to discharge, what the predicted operative mortality is for the cases we are doing; and how many patients we are seeing with renal function deficits. That information is all right there.”
