  • Leading Prostate Cancer Research Consortium Goes Live On Velos

San Francisco, CA — May 6, 2004 — Velos, Inc., an innovative clinical research software provider, today announced system ‘go-live’ of a highly regarded clinical research cooperative. The lead centers, all members of the Therapy Consortium of the Prostate Cancer Foundation, include Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins, UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center (the “Consortium”). Several other cancer research centers of distinction who are also members of the Consortium will soon install the Velos system for clinical data collection.

The Consortium has put Velos eResearch in production to support clinical trials funded by the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the National Cancer Institute. Velos eResearch is an internet and intranet product line designed for study site professionals that supports patient recruitment, study monitoring, project planning, study design, protocol compliance, budget management, data safety monitoring, and clinical data management. The Consortium also plans to use Velos to support future industry-sponsored clinical trials.

"Velos eResearch will accelerate the information sharing process among medical centers of excellence participating in clinical trials and speed up the process of drug development," said Dr. Howard I. Scher, Chief of the Genitourinary Oncology Service at Memorial Sloan-Kettering and a member of the Therapy Consortium. "We expect this to have a major impact on clinical trials in that it will allow Centers to reduce costs, improve the quality of study data; eliminate the chance of error, and help trial sites communicate more efficiently and effectively."

“The exceptional organizations that comprise the Consortium share our vision to help transform clinical research from its current disintegrated state to a new era of productivity,” notes John S. McIlwain, President of Velos. “This is achieved by integrating with internal systems at the Centers, supporting multiple research projects in one system, and connecting the researchers with their collaborators and sponsors. These thought-leading Centers are on course to achieve unprecedented levels of information-driven productivity.”
