Top Academic Medical Centers, Research Institutions, and Partners Gather, Share Success Stories at Velos eResearch Annual Meeting — Speakers include industry and customer thought leaders —
San Francisco, CA - May 9, 2007 - Velos, Inc., the recognized leader and trusted resource for clinical trial management information software for the clinical research community, last week hosted a constellation of prestigious academic medical centers and research institutions. These Velos customers use the Velos eResearch system to internally and collaboratively manage thousands of clinical trials.
The Velos eResearch customer base includes 21 top 25 U.S. medical centers. Over 100 professionals, including representatives from institutions such as Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Columbia University, Duke University, UCSF, and the University of Michigan, attended last week's meeting at San Francisco's Hyatt Regency Hotel. Also in attendance were representatives from the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. Such themes as collaboration, direct data capture, multi-site research network management, outcomes measurement, patient self-reporting, and financial management were discussed throughout the two-day session.
"We were delighted to see continued evidence of Velos' rapid growth," said John S. McIlwain, President and CEO of Velos. "Participant and audience size doubled from last year. But beyond that, we are gratified at the enthusiasm and passion of our customers and their willingness to share information and best practices to collaborate in adopting our state-of-the-art clinical research system infrastructure."
Among the honored guests was a delegation of physicians, biostatisticians, and information technologists from South Korea. The delegation came to the U.S. as new users of the Velos eResearch system. South Korea is deploying the system in an unprecedented countrywide initiative that will allow seamless collaboration and information sharing among all South Korean cancer centers as they conduct clinical trials.
In the U.S., Velos customers receive over 30 percent of extramural clinical research funding from the National Institutes of Health-the largest such share for any clinical trial management system software vendor in the U.S.
The Keynote Speaker at this year's meeting was N. Venu Gopal, CEO of Aithent Inc. (www.aithent.com) and a thought leader in object-oriented software design and development. Gopal spoke about the unified world of business, technology and medicine, and pointed out that our "flattened world" also has "folds" where like-minded people from throughout the planet come together, collaborate, innovate and bring advancement to humanity. Gopal especially sees this happening in medical research.
Priti Sahai, M.D., Velos Vice President of Product Development and conference moderator, introduced a range of new product offerings for Velos customers, including Velos BioSpecimen Management, Patient Portals, and Velos eTools to empower users even further.
"The highly regarded research centers who are Velos customers provide essential support for much-needed improvements in the information model in clinical research," notes Amar Chahal, M.D., Velos co-founder and Executive Vice President. "These Velos customers have the knowledge, resources, and incentive to facilitate positive change. We witnessed these dynamics in action last week in San Francisco."
