National Cancer Center of South Korea Selects Velos to
Support Clinical Trials Conducted Throughout Country — Seamless integration, real time connection for sponsors, investigators, patients —
Fremont, CA - August 15, 2007 - Velos, Inc., the recognized leader and trusted resource for
U.S. clinical trial management information systems, and the nation of South Korea through its National Cancer Center, have agreed to deploy Velos eResearch to support cancer research throughout South Korea. The National Cancer Center of South Korea is a government research sponsor equivalent to the National Cancer Institute in the United States and serves a large population about the size of California.
"We are very pleased to launch the Velos relationship," said Dr. Keun-Young Yoo, president of the National Cancer Center, Korea. "With Velos eResearch, we are fulfilling an important mission for the cancer research community of South Korea by establishing a state-of-the-art clinical trial collaboration and execution system infrastructure. Velos, with its advanced technology, will support efficient, high quality multi-site collaboration and rapid deployment capabilities for cancer research throughout South Korea. This, in turn, brings unique advantages for future, large scale, cancer clinical research programs in South Korea."
Velos eResearch will fundamentally improve the way data is collected, organized and shared among research sites, patients, the National Cancer Center and other research sponsors. An advanced, pure Internet technology platform with Velos will enable all to collaborate in a secure and integrated system. With Velos, investigator sites for South Korean cancer trials will have an exceptional product to address their research-related clinical, administrative and financial needs while also addressing the needs of the National Cancer Center and other sponsors.
"We are honored to work with the nation of South Korea and to be part of the forward-thinking approach of the National Cancer Center," stated John S. McIlwain, CEO of Velos, Inc. "This is precisely the Velos model: large scale, multi-enterprise research collaboration with a focus on addressing the information and research needs of both investigators and sponsors. The National Cancer Center of South Korea is well-positioned to harvest Velos advantages and implement a secure, high quality, and cost-effective information platform clinical research."
"With Velos eResearch, we will have leadership system infrastructure and a cohesive information network in place for cancer clinical research in South Korea," continued Dr. Keun-Young Yoo. "Velos addresses the information and regulatory needs of pharmaceutical sponsors while also robustly serving the information needs of investigators and sites. These capabilities position South Korea to be especially productive and reliable in clinical research execution."
Velos eResearch is already widely used and highly regarded at top cancer research programs in the U.S. Velos customers receive approximately 35 percent of extramural grants from the National Cancer Institute. Velos also supports clinical research in over 40 other medical specializations and counts 22 top 25 academic medical centers and research institutions as customers (source: U.S. News and World Report 2006 Best Hospitals Survey). Through its Velos partnership, the National Cancer Center further strengthens its position for collaboration with overseas partners.
About the National Cancer Center of South Korea
Founded in 2000 as a government-funded organization, the National Cancer Center (NCC) of South Korea is playing an essential role as the national center in the fight against cancer through research, medical care, education and training. As a think-tank for cancer control policy research, the center also advises the Korean government on cancer control issues such as providing policy options for formulating, implementing and evaluating national cancer control programs. The NCC hospital, one of its three major functions, accommodates approximately 1,200 outpatients a day, having a capacity of 500 beds. In terms of clinical research, the hospital currently develops, on average, sixty protocols annually, enrolling about 2,000 patients. For more information, visit the South Korean NCC website at www.ncc.re.kr.
