UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center Professionals Win Society of Clinical Research Associates (SoCRA) Poster Contest

Center for winning top honors in the poster contest at the Society of Clinical Research Associates
(SoCRA) 15th Annual Conference in Chicago, IL, September 22-24. The poster session, entitled
“Electronic Data Capture in Clinical Trials Management – Challenges in Deployment at an NCI
Comprehensive Cancer Center”, was authored by Beverly Fein, RN, De’Anna Castro, and Karen Kimura.
The poster details aspects of their successful implementation of a clinical trial management system
(CTMS), including:
- The key objectives for installing a CTMS. These included: 1) eliminate duplicate work, 2) reduce
paper, and 3) resolve other information ailments common to many Comprehensive Cancer
Centers.
- The implementation and buy-in process with a particular focus on the Protocol Review
Committee, Pharmacy Rollout, and NCI Data Reports.
- Conclusions and recommendations based on their achievement.
The authors also acknowledge the UCSF oncology staff in Clinical Research Support Services within the
UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center, and their pharmacists, Protocol Review Committee investigators,
statisticians, and clinical research coordinators.
